Introduction Pilocarpine is a direct-acting muscarinic receptor agonist used primarily in glaucoma and xerostomia. It mimics the action of acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors, producing parasympathetic effects. In ophthalmology, pilocarpine lowers intraocular pressure by increasing aqueous humor outflow.
