Fermentation Productivity Calculator
Bioprocess metrics for batch, fed-batch, and continuous fermentation
Process Inputs

How to interpret results
QP (Volumetric Productivity) — Product formed per unit volume per unit time. Higher = faster production, but quality constraints may limit targets.
YP/S (Product Yield) — How efficiently substrate converts to product. 1 g/g is theoretical maximum; real values are lower.
QX (Biomass Productivity) — Growth rate indicator. High biomass ≠ high product in all cases (e.g. growth-associated vs non-growth-associated).
Note: Higher productivity is not always better — downstream processing, product quality, and regulatory constraints apply.
Chemostat Inputs

How to interpret results
rP — Volumetric product formation rate; the productivity of the chemostat at steady state.
D — At steady state, D = µ (specific growth rate). Increasing D increases productivity but risks washout when D → µmax.
YP/S — Product yield on substrate at steady state. Reflects metabolic efficiency.
