Exam Blueprint Overview

  • Clinical Judgment (80 percent): Comprehensive cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, hematology, GI, renal, integumentary, neurologic, multisystem and psychosocial assessment and management in the ICU.
  • Cardiovascular: ACS, dysrhythmias, cardiogenic shock, heart failure, valve disease, tamponade, aortic emergencies and post-cardiac surgery complications.
  • Respiratory: Ventilators, ARDS strategies, acute respiratory failure, COPD/asthma crises, PE, chest tubes and ABG interpretation.
  • Endocrine/Heme/GI/Renal/Integumentary: DKA, HHS, thyroid and adrenal crisis, DIC, HIT, GI bleed, pancreatitis, AKI, CRRT, electrolyte crises and burns.
  • Neurologic and Multisystem: Stroke, TBI, seizures, delirium, sepsis, septic shock, MODS, trauma, hypothermia and toxicologic emergencies.
  • Professional Caring & Ethical Practice (20 percent): Advocacy, ethics, diversity, communication, collaboration, leadership and systems thinking in critical care nursing.
